Women Without Men //Shirin Neshat

WARNING: EXTREME BIAS. In the past few weeks I have  been documenting my love for Shirin Neshat and her work and today is the lastest installment of that. I mentioned Women Without Men, a film directed by Shirin before here but today, I wanted to show you why I think this film is one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen in a while.
In Neshat’s interpretation of  Shahrnush Parsipur’s book,  every frame is beautifully composed and the storytelling is deliberately slow, giving the viewer enough time to absorb everything in each scene. I think Neshat is a master of composition and her keen photographic eye is evident in these photos.
I have presented these images, without context, firstly because I don’t want to spoil the film for you and secondly, because I don’t think context is necessary to appreciate the beauty of the photos. I had the hardest time picking stills to publish here because I almost took photos of every frame.

Disfunkshion Magazine

On my monthly magazine run to Barnes & Noble, I saw this magazine almost completely hidden behind all the others. I loved the cover but didn’t expect much. When I flipped through it, however, I instantly fell in love. I have never seen a print mag dedicated to gypset/bohemian style. It’s so unique!! You can find it at Barnes & Noble stores nationwide but make sure to check out their website and social media for even more gypset/boho goodness!!
