Since it’s Fashion Week I thought it would be the PERFECT time to talk about personal style and how we translate trends to fit OUR personal style. I’m at an age where I can safely say that I know myself (what I like and what I don’t like) and I am comfortable with who I am and expressing my opinions. That being said I look at certain Fashion Shows because those designers are my favorites. In all honesty, I am not huge on trends because I have found that some trends just don’t appeal to me. For example, I am not attracted to Peplum, I don’t know why but I just don’t care for it. I can appreciate what it adds to a design but I won’t wear it.
My blog is called Tribes & Things because I am obsessed with anything remotely tribal and festivalwear but does that mean that I only shop at Free People and Etsy and Flea Markets? No. One of my favorite designers is Carolina Herrera because I love the structure of her designs, they are always classic cuts and they make me think of the Colonial Caribbean. Can I make a classic Carolina Herrera button down white shirt work with a floor length festival skirt? Yes. Because I can translate that piece reflect to MY PERSONAL STYLE.
As you watch the shows and flip through the galleries of pictures on Style.com or fashionista or nowfashion, ask yourself whether or not you like the pieces and why not and if you do, how can you translate this idea to reflect your personal style? You don’t have to like something because some outside entity thinks that it will be the season’s hottest trend. Do YOU like it? Does it fit YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
Happy Fashion Week xoxo
I’m not going to lie one of the things I loved about living in New York was having to wear a coat/jacket 9 months of the year. I find that layering makes putting outfits together easier? or maybe I just liked the way that a jacket/coat can make you look elegant and put together no matter what is really going on beneath it :p Now to my dilema….In this special Miami weather I have to think of some other way to pull off effortless chic. I promised myself long before I set foot in Miami that I would not let sea and sand turn me into a Blue Crush extra…..It’s too hot to wear long denim all day and short shorts…..mehhh…..dresses?….skirts? Let’s explore some options….
