I started my day yesterday with a cup of my fave roasted dandelion tea and a Spanish newspaper and ended with a glass of wine, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton & Big Sur. Everything that happened in between these two moments was in some way important but still not as important as these two moments because I did them for myself. Not because I had to, but because I wanted to. I asked myself what we felt like doing and this was the answer.
I’m beginning to crave rituals. Nothing too ordered, not a list things that I need to do on certain days at a certain time but simply a space in my day where I connect with myself and in that space enjoy myself, without the need for any special people or circumstances, just….me.
“We do spiritual ceremonies as human beings in order to create a safe resting place for our most complicated feelings of joy or trauma, so that we don’t have to haul those feelings around with us forever, weighing us down. We all need such places of ritual safekeeping. And I do believe that if your culture or tradition doesn’t have the specific ritual you are craving, then you are absolutely permitted to make up a ceremony of your own devising, fixing your own broken-down emotional systems with all the do-it-yourself resourcefulness of a generous plumber/poet.” – Elizabeth Gilbert Eat, Pray, Love
What are your fave “me-time” rituals?
