On the heels of yesterday’s discussion about the concept of beauty and it’s relativity, today’s Goddess Style post features one of the queens of unconventional beauty (in my opinion), Michele Lamy. I love the way her uninhibited style is all her own. It’s not about a trend, it’s what Michele likes and why should she have to explain it or justify it to anyone?
That is what personal style should be about, wearing the things we love.
She even admits that some might find her finger coloring strange but challenges “who said that when you do your nails they have to be just the size of the nail?”
WATCH the video below to hear Michele’s husband Rick Owens talk about Lamy, her influence in his work and to hear Michele in her own words:
The idea of beauty, and how it’s definition changes from one culture to another, is always fascinating to me. The Ainu of Japan, for example, consider beards and mustaches to be a sign of beauty. So much so, that married women have tattoos around their lips to mimic a beard.
It makes me think about how relative the idea of beauty is and perhaps how irrelevant it is.
How important is the idea of beauty to you?
While Ainu tattoos or elongated neck rings might seem strange to us, wearing blush on our cheeks or painting our nails might seem just as strange to someone else.
You can learn more about the Ainu here and here.
